Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is looking for a highly motivated senior-level Systems Engineer. Successful candidates will have a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or other related fields. Professional experience beyond 7 years is desired, but may not be required in all circumstances. Successful applicants will support the design and development of a wide variety of electromechanical systems including hardware assemblies, control and feedback systems, shipboard sensing and actuation systems, and complex electromechanical devices. Applicants will be expected to perform design, analysis, and hands-on work to support the fabrication, assembly and testing of these components and systems in the laboratory, in the field at Navy test facilities, and at sea.

Candidates should have a proven track record of design, analysis, integration, and evaluation of complex electromechanical systems, as well as have experience validating that these systems meet internal and external requirements. Applicants should be familiar with electrical and mechanical CAD software, GD&T, fabrication and assembly processes, system-level integration best practices and processes. Ability to perform multidisciplinary design analyses and evaluation of data is desired. Successful candidates will be success oriented and will have the ability to work in small, fast paced engineering R&D programs as a team or individual contributor, with minimal technical supervision.

Tasking will include:

• Perform engineering work related to the conceptualization, design, analysis, evaluation, planning, testing and operation of electromechanical equipment and systems.
• Support System Engineering and Program Management for the development of novel systems and prototypes.
• Lead critical design analyses, trade studies, and market surveys to evaluate new concepts.
• Help with the design, fabrication, and assembly of components, subsystems, and systems. Work closely with senior staff and manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are fully compliant, reviewed, and ready for fabrication.
• Review, write and create technical documentation, processes and test plans as well as analyze and document results.
• Identify recommended or required tests for subsystem and system functionality and performance validation, organize test planning documentation, and help manage test execution and reporting of results.
• Assist in system, subsystem, and component level development of requirements, and/or support deep dives into requirements establishment based on customer desires.
• Travel to help install, test, and/or deploy equipment in the field.
Contribute technical content for proposals and other business development pursuits.

Required Attributes and Skills:

• Well-organized, detail-oriented, maintains good notes, strong communication skills
• Demonstrated Leadership on small and medium sized technical projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex technical tasks while maintaining regular and judicious communication with stakeholders and managers.
• Experience with hardware CAD software (Solidworks, CATIA, CREO), GD&T processes and/or electrical design tools (Altium).
• Experience with Hardware and Software development (specification, fabrication, assembly, wiring, integration, testing, deployment).
• Experience with engineering analysis tools (MATLAB, Mathcad, etc.).
• Experience with software programming languages (e.g. Python, C, C++).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

Desired Attributes and Skills:

• Experience with microcontrollers (i.e., Arduino, Basic Stamp, Raspberry Pi).
• Experience with 3D printing technologies and software.
• Experience with National Instruments hardware and programming.
• Experience with program management and model-based systems engineering tools.
