Applied Physical Sciences is looking for a highly motivated Technology Commercialization Specialist to join our Groton, CT team with the primary objective of supporting commercialization of innovative maritime technologies for DoD and commercial markets. This position blends technical expertise, business acumen, and entrepreneurial thinking to help transition APS products. The Technology Commercialization Specialist will directly support our Program Managers to explore the viability of different business models as it pertains to a specific technology, military use case, and Navy or other industry customers. They will help to establish a commercialization plan and pricing strategy, informed by a well-understood business risk model, go-to-market strategy, full product cycle and technology improvement plan, logistics and scalability plan, support services and infrastructure requirements, and regulatory and legal assessments. Successful applicants will have proven experience supporting commercialization of new technologies.

Responsibilities:
- Support APS senior leadership in the development of strategic Technology Commercialization business plans which also include the identification of potential risks and proposed mitigation approaches.
- With support from the engineering team, lead development of pricing models, manufacturing plan, and strategy for scale-up
- Conduct market research and competitive analyses to identify potential applications and partners for technologies
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements related to technology transfer and commercialization
- Work closely with our technology development team to identify features and functionality required by the Navy or other industry customers
- Work closely with subcontractors which may contribute key technologies through licensing agreements or other business relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, commercial entities, and other stakeholders to support technology adoption
- Support the APS G&A team with special projects which may include investigating strategies for providing agile and scalable administrative response teams to provide support to commercial endeavors or entities.
Required Attributes and Skills:
- Highly-motivated, driven, self-starter
- Active or ability to gain SECRET clearance
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, science, or business
- Experience supporting technology commercialization that resulted in products or services being used in DoD or commercial markets
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in market research, competitive analysis, and commercialization strategies
- Experience with or general understanding of government contracting mechanisms
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Exceptional organization, communication, and ability to take-initiative
Desired Attributes and Skills:
- Advanced degree in business (e.g., an MBA) with a focus in finance or business administration
- Prior experience in transitioning technologies to DoD or maritime markets
- Prior experience working in an R&D environment and working closely with an engineering team
- Familiarity with regulatory and legal requirements for defense and commercial technologies
- Familiarity with International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Export Administration Regulations
- Experience in the area of Undersea Systems and Technology
- Experience with government IT systems and classified networks
- Former Project Management experience or PMP certification could be beneficial but not required
- Experience with full product lifecycle planning
