CHAMP SYSTEM
The CoHerent Acoustic Modulatable Projector (CHAMP) is a coherent sound source for marine seismic surveys.
The system development is funded by ExxonMobil, Shell, and Total and is closely associated with U.S. Patent No. 9,562,982 issued to APS in February of 2017. Additional domestic and international patents are pending.

The CoHerent Acoustic Modulatable Projector (CHAMP): Revolutionizing Marine Seismic Surveys
System Description
The CHAMP System is designed to meet or exceed the goals mandated by the Marine Vibrator Joint Industry Project (MVJIP), delivering a minimum source level specification of 206 dB re 1 μPa at 1 m for frequencies between 5-10 Hz and 216 dB re 1 μPa at 1 m for frequencies between 10-100 Hz. This non-impulsive, coherent sound source offers a better seismic signature than traditional air guns, allowing for the use of tailored acoustic waveforms in environmentally sensitive areas and shallow waters.
Development and Funding
The development of the CHAMP System is funded by ExxonMobil, Shell, and Total, and is closely associated with U.S. Patent No. 9,562,982 issued to APS in February 2017. Additional domestic and international patents are pending, ensuring the protection of this innovative technology.
Applications and Operational Benefits
The CHAMP System's primary application is marine seismic surveys, where it offers improved accuracy and reliability in data collection and enhanced efficiency in survey operations. The system's adaptability to various environments and its ability to operate in environmentally sensitive areas make it a valuable tool for researchers and industry professionals alike.
Technical Innovations and User Guidelines
The CHAMP System incorporates unique technological innovations that set it apart from traditional seismic survey systems. A fully assembled quarter-scale projector has been successfully tested, demonstrating the system's capabilities. User guidelines and safety instructions are available to ensure the proper and safe operation of the CHAMP System.
