Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences Corp (APS) seeks a highly skilled and motivated Electro-Mechanical Potting Technician with a minimum of 2+ years (5+ years desired) of hands-on experience in an electro-mechanical assembly environment that includes potting or encapsulation of equipment using polyurethanes and/or epoxies. The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with potting materials such as polyurethanes and epoxies as well as primers used to prepare a surface for encapsulation. This is a full-time position at our Pawcatuck, CT facility requiring daily collaboration with our Prototyping & Fabrication Department management team, engineering staff and fellow technicians. The successful candidate will be detailed and process oriented, adaptable, personable, and have good communication skills while being capable of working independently or in a team atmosphere.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Be trained, understand and follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements and assembly instructions associated with the potting/encapsulation process.
- Perform the required preparation work to clean and treat molds as well as scuff, clean, prime and secure electronic assembly components within the molds for the potting/encapsulation process.
- Mix, degas and pour potting/encapsulation material, typically polyurethane, either via hand mixing or using our polyurethane storage, degassing, and dispensing machine.
- Cure potted/encapsulated sub-assemblies in curing ovens as required.
- Perform inspections of potted/encapsulated sub-assemblies to ensure a solid, water-tight seal.
- Clean and maintain all potting/encapsulation equipment including tools, scales, vacuum pumps, bell jars, vacuum chambers, Meter Mix machine, bell jars, mobile fume extractors, etc.
- Support other activities if potting/encapsulation work is not required such as electronic assembly, soldering cable wires, crimping pins, mechanical assembly, chassis assembly, fixture fabrication, test set-ups, etc.
- Document all work performed within assigned work packages and note any deviations from drawings or specifications per our QMS
- Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized and professional work area in alignment with APS shop practices
Required Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge of basic electronic principles
- Soldering in accordance with J-STD and IPC standards
- Engineering drawing reading and interpretation
- Operate basic hand tools and stationary fabrication equipment such as saws and drill presses
- The ideal candidate must also demonstrate or provide examples of similar work to demonstrate electro-mechanical aptitude, process adherence, and hand/eye coordination
- Basic computer skills for email communication, timecard entry and internet research as required
- Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Direct potting/encapsulation experience is a plus
- Related work with chemicals, solvents and epoxies/glues
- Experience with lifting equipment (cranes), hand tools, drill presses, and digital multi-meters
