Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences Corp (APS) seeks a highly skilled electronic technician with hands-on experience to support prototype and product fabrication. Relevant experience required is as follows: recent successful training graduate (associate’s degree or technical school) considered; 5+ years preferred. Successful candidates will have excellent electronic skills working with printed circuit boards (PCBs), wire cables and harnesses, and wiring of electronic chassis. This is a full-time position at our Pawcatuck, CT facility requiring daily collaboration with our Prototyping & Fabrication Department management team, engineering staff and fellow technicians. The successful candidate will be detailed and process oriented, adaptable, personable, and have good communication skills while being capable of working independently or in a team atmosphere. Interviewees for this position will be required to successfully complete a short proficiency test that includes hand soldering.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
- PCB soldering and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
- Wire harness assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
- Chassis wiring and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
- Assist Electrical Engineers with prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic sub-assemblies.
- Responsible for organization, cleanliness and maintenance of electronics lab space and electrical work cell floor space areas.
- Responsible for organizing and supporting the maintenance of the electronic test equipment.
- Responsible for supporting the organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of the shop area floor space.
Required Skills and Attributes:
- Strict adherence to process, careful attention to detail, and accountability for the quality and timeliness of work
- Knowledge of basic electronic principles
- Expert soldering skills of surface mount components down to sizes of MSOP ICs (0.5mm pitch) and 0402 passive components (capacitors/resistors). Soldering proficiency test will exercise these abilities.
- Reading schematics and board layout files, signal tracing, and implementation of non-fragile prototype modifications and signal break-out
- Basic computer skills for email communication, timecard entry and basic internet research as required
- Good hand/eye coordination is necessary to perform the job safely
- Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
- IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certifications are a plus
- Experience using an oscilloscope, waveform generator, hi-pot tester, handheld meters, power supplies, and other basic lab equipment
