Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking an experienced full-time Human Resources Generalist, Talent to become an important part of a growing team for its Administrative offices in Pawcatuck, CT. This role offers a unique opportunity to support both talent acquisition and HR generalist functions, working closely with senior leaders and business stakeholders across the company. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is committed to continuous learning and improvement, possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, and is skilled in offering first-class HR support across multiple locations.
This position is responsible for supporting and administering the company’s Human Resources programs, policies and procedures in a legally compliant manner while balancing the unique, strategic needs of a company that provides agile advanced technology solutions for emerging challenges in both national security and commercial markets. While supporting the breadth of HR generalist responsibilities, you will lead recruitment efforts. This includes collaborating with hiring managers to understand current and future staffing needs, and partnering with stakeholders to successfully manage the full employee life cycle. The ideal candidate has extensive experience recruiting top technical talent for specialized technical domains, as well as an ability to effectively assess and communicate talent availability and market dynamics when collaborating on staffing strategies.

APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Talent Acquisition: Collaborate with hiring managers to understand current and future staffing needs. Lead recruitment efforts, including strategic sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, and offer management. Leverage ATS/HRIS technology to track key metrics, build a skilled workforce, and foster a positive experience for all APS applicants.
- Onboarding and Integration: Support onboarding processes to ensure new employees have an exceptional experience from offer acceptance onward, setting candidates up for short-term and long-term success. Coordinate the Day 1experience across multiple locations and teams, organizing employee training and touchpoints to support successful integration into APS culture. Develop initiatives that foster role clarity, and an engaged and productive workforce.
- Talent Management: Oversee, manage, and guide leaders through the full talent management cycle, including performance reviews, employee development, performance management, promotions, and talent planning.
- Strategic Partnership: Partner with key stakeholders to translate business objectives into high-impact, data-driven people strategies that drive innovation, speed, and organizational effectiveness. Support change management, workforce planning, and organizational development for long-term success.
- Leadership Coaching: Provide expert coaching and counsel to leaders on complex employee relations matters, performance management, conflict resolution, and leadership development.
- Culture and Inclusion: Actively foster company values, cultivating inclusion through intentional leadership and mechanisms that support a strong sense of belonging.
- Employee Relations: Utilize an empathetic approach to understand employee concerns, answer questions, and help employees navigate available resources. Conduct thorough and timely investigations into employee complaints and disciplinary matters, providing recommendations for resolution and partnering with stakeholders as appropriate.
- Compliance & Reporting: Contribute to the development of HR policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations and audit processes (e.g., AA/EEO, I-9 audits, FMLA, ADA, wage and labor laws). Uphold the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of human resource records.
- Pay and Benefits: Contribute to the oversight and administration of compensation programs, employee benefits, and payroll processes.
- HR Excellence: Support implementation of HR information systems or modifying current systems/processes to streamline workflow and drive continuous improvement.
- Agile Teammate: Perform other duties as may be assigned to support the team and business.
Required Skills and Attributes
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience in related fields.
- 5+ years of relevant HR experience, preferably in science, technology, or project-based environments; 1+ years of technical recruiting experience.
- Experience supporting full-cycle recruiting processes, including requisition, sourcing, and candidate management.
- Proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), and social media sourcing tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication; high quality document preparation, data visualization, and facilitation skills.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Adaptable, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, sustaining HR programs and initiatives during times of change.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Ability to influence change and promote an inclusive environment.
- Takes a data-driven approach with strong analytics and the ability to create the right people metrics and implement solutions to drive positive change;
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office tools.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Experience recruiting for R&D, advanced engineering, or highly specialized technical teams
- Experience recruiting across both cleared and uncleared roles
- Campus recruiting and SkillBridge experience
- Experience in project management
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CHRP, or similar certification
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office and Excel skills (ex: VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, pivot tables, charts, dashboards).
