Rusty Smith, Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1982 and served in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine officer. In 2012, Rusty concluded his 30-year naval career at the rank of Captain.
Rusty brings to APS over three decades of leadership experience managing people, programs, budgets, and operations in the challenging and diverse fields of defense policy, international security cooperation, naval nuclear propulsion, submarine operations, nuclear weapons command and control, intelligence, and undersea surveillance.
Rusty works with our leadership team to strengthen relationships with our customers and industry partners to enhance our support to end users and warfighters by developing and delivering the right technology at the right time.
Prior to joining APS in 2015, Rusty was the Manager of Strategic Analysis in the Washington Operations Office of General Dynamics Electric Boat. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium.
